Fortis Health Insurance
Fortis health Insurance was formerly Assurant Health and was founded in 1892. Assurant Health is a subsidiary of Assurant. The company provides group health, individual, and speciality insurance plans for more than 1 million people across the country. The also have plans for individuals such as PPO’s and Indemnity plans, and Assurant’s products which includes health savings accounts, short term medical insurance, small group insurance plans, and insurance plans for students. The company has over 200,000 agents that sells the Assurant products at underwriting subsidiaries Time Insurance Company, Union Security Insurance Company, and the John Alden Life Insurance Company. These insurance companies have been around for a while and offer many different health insurance plans to suit your needs as an individual or as a family. There are many other well known health insurance companies and plans that have been around for many years so you can do some research to find out which one you want to do business with.
There are many employers who offer health insurance to their employees as an incentive for their good work and dedication. In some cases the employer will pay the insurance premiums for the employee. Some employers will only pay a portion of the premium or none of the premium but the employee is offered health insurance at group rates so they can get the health insurance much cheaper than it would be if they bought it straight from the insurance company as an individual. The premiums are withdrawn from the employees payroll check. It is usually a monthly premium but sometimes it is divided and withdrawn from the paycheck on a weekly or biweekly basis.
There are millions of people who do not have health insurance and can not afford any. Some of them do not make enough money to afford health insurance so they have to suffer. Their families also have to suffer too. There are some who can get assistance for their medical bills and medications from the government agencies set up for just such a purpose. Those who qualify for the assistance fall below the poverty guidelines so there is no way they could afford to pay for health insurance for themselves and their families. Those who receive help have to either have children in the home or be disabled and drawing disability assistance. The ones who are not in this group but still do not make enough money to buy health insurance or for those who have pre-existing conditions, are just out of luck. They are left to suffer because there is no form of assistance for them. They have to do without health insurance and medications.
